Vincent Bercx (born February 23, 1996), better known as Berrix, is a European electronic musician from Belgium. He is known for fusing the characteristics of cinematic soundscapes, neurofunk and dubstep in his music. Berrix is best known for his release on American label Disciple Recordings, that peaked on Beatport's Dubstep Top 10 tracks at the No. 1 position in April 2020.[1][2][3]

Berrix's label releases began in 2015. Berrix had several successful releases, such as "Who Do I Trust?"[4], with European producer Styn, "Dejavu"[5], with European producer Infekt, "Wolf Pack"[6], with American producer Bommer, "We Don't Stop"[7], with American producer Slimez and "Disperser"[8], featuring Shiverz. "Who Do I Trust?"[4] and "Dejavu"[5] reached number two, "Wolf Pack"[4] reached number four and "We Don't Stop"[7] reached number five on Beatport's top 100 dubstep charts.

Berrix toured and performed across the globe in: Belgium, Netherlands, France, Germany, England, Hungary, United States, Canada & Australia. He also made three releases on Savage Society Records, "Code 2600"[9], "Curzed - The Reply (Berrix Remix)"[10] and "Blankface - Static Bass (Berrix Remix)"[11] that peaked on Beatport's Dubstep Top 10 tracks prior to his release on Disciple Recordings.[2]

His exclusive track selection and quick mixing have gained him 2 studio mixes with Shiverzโ€™s โ€œButcherโ€™s Choiceโ€ series.

Berrix has collaborated with various artists including Infekt, Artix!, Bommer, Point.Blank, Squnto and Shiverz 'Da Butcher', among others and has performed direct support for artists such as Doctor P, Caspa, Hydraulix, Phiso, Jakes, Hesh & Aweminus.

Early life

Bercx grew up in Antwerp, listening to artists as Benga, Skream, and Rusko in 2008. He began producing Dubstep under his alias to work out his particular sound and style by using Propellerhead Reason in 2014 and later moved to Los Angeles.

Career

2015-2017: Early success

Berrix's debut release was the No Mercy EP on Full Flex Audio in October 2015[12], which featured both grime and dubstep styles. In early 2016 Berrix toured the United States on the North American debut tour, his first major tour. This was followed by the Invaders EP on Dub Selection Records in March 2016[13], In May 2016, Berrix released his first single, Disturbed Bass, on Bewildered Recordings[14]. He subsequently released an original dubstep track titled "Code 2600" on Savage Society Recordings in December 2016[15]. In early 2017 Berrix toured the United States again with Dutch producer Styn on the "Powerpuff USA" tour. In April 2017, Berrix and American producer Cubs released the dubstep tracks "Time's Up" & "Betrayal" on their 2-track single.[16] The tracks were inspired by grime and got signed and released on American Grime Records. In May 2017, Berrix did an official remix by SUBFILTRONIK!!!โ„ข of his infamous dubstep track "Psycho Blockz". The remix was self-released on Berrix's SoundCloud page. Berrix described this in May 2017 as one of several turning points in his music career.[17]

In August 2017, Berrix released the dubstep track "Drop & Gimme 50" with Belgian producer Swifty on the label Bewildered Recordings which reached number two on Beatport's dubstep chart.[18] In December 2017, Berrix and Curzed released "Curzed - The Reply (Berrix Remix)", a grimey dubstep track, which reached number one on Beatport's dubstep chart.[19] In December 30th 2017, Berrix moved from Belgium to Los Angeles & released "T3RM1N4T0R", a 4-track EP. Berrix also made a VIP of "T3RM1N4T0R". The tracks were released on American label Bewildered Recordings.[20]

2018-2020:

In January, Berrix released his first single on Bewildered Productions, a remix of Velocity, a song by UK producer Kahlil[21]. A week later Berrix did his debut tour in Australia. In May, he released the four-track Jungle Demon EP.[22] In November, Berrix self-released the dubstep track "Who Do I Trust?", with Dutch producer Styn, which reached number two on Beatport's dubstep chart.[4] In October, Berrix released the dubstep tracks "Wolf Pack" & "Wolf Pack VIP", a collaboration with American producer Bommer, which reached number four on Beatport's dubstep chart.[6] A week later, he released the neurofunk inspired dubstep track "Soultaker", with Argentinian producer Artix!, which as of November 2022 also had over 300,000+ Spotify Streams on their self-release.[23] In December, he released the 45 minute b2b studio mix with American producer Blankface on SoundCloud.[24]

2021-present:

In early 2021. Berrix stated that he had begun to deviate in terms of sound. In March, Berrix released No remorse, a four-track EP with American producers Bloodthinnerz, on Savage Society Recordings.[25] In April, Berrix released the 5-track "Implosion EP" on American label Disciple Round Table[2] featuring American artist D3vinity on "Dream Quest"[26] & "Next To You"[27], United Kingdom artist Shiverz on "Disperser"[8] and a collaboration with German producer Infekt on "Dejavu"[5]. In July, Berrix released a remix track of "Tentacles" by Noisia.[28] In September, Berrix returned to the Savage Society Records label with the dubstep single remix of "Static Bass", by American producer Blankface.[29] The same month, he self-released the dubstep remix track with D3vinity of "This Could Be Us" by Virtual Riot, Modestep & Frank Zummo.[30] Berrix also toured with D3vinity in late 2021. In December, Berrix released a remix of "Pray For Riddim" by German producer Virtual Riot which got supported by Modestep during an Insomniac livestream event 'Virtual Rave-A-Thon'.[31][32]

Berrix continued to release music in 2022, both on labels and with self-releases. These include a neurofunk inspired dubstep remix of "The Ignorant" by American producer Carbin in February[33], a remix track of "Pyscho" by Modestep in March[34], the 2-track single release "Dystopia" and "Annihilator" in April[35][36] and the self-released dubstep track "TR3B" in August[37]. In September, Berrix released "Gnash", his first of many new dubstep tracks that leans more towards a heavier side of a dubstep subgenre called tearout.[38] Then 2 weeks later, Berrix released "The Dominion".[39] A more Noisia inspired neurofunk dubstep track as he describes. In October 2022, Berrix collaborated with D3vinity a second time to release the dubstep track "Ego Death" on American label Emengy Records.[40] In November, Berrix collaborated with D3vinity again on the heavy dubstep track "Ashlight",[41] released on D3vinity's label D3vine Records.[42]

Musical style

Berrix has described his sound as "heavy dubstep". He has described himself as fusing the characteristics of cinematic soundscapes, neurofunk and dubstep in his music. Berrix has cited Noisia as an influence, whom he first heard through the 2012 track "Machine Gun"[43]. He has also named Subfiltronik, Svdden Death and Marauda as influences.

Personal life

As of 2022, Berrix is living in Orlando, Florida. He had previously lived in Los Angeles, California from 2017 to 2020 and in Antwerp, Belgium before that, where he was born & raised.

Berrix has described the artist Sleepnet as a major personal new influence.
