Better Holdco, Inc. ("Better") is an American digital homeownership company.[1]
Founded in 2016, Better’s services include mortgage, real estate, title, and homeowners insurance. As of December 2020, Better’s mortgage business, Better Mortgage, has funded over $25 billion in home loans. And Better’s insurance divisions, Better Cover and Better Settlement Services, have provided over $7 billion in cumulative coverage.[2]
Better is an online lender that leverages smart technology[3] to offer clients a streamlined homebuying process, help them find a real estate agent, secure a mortgage loan (or refinanced loan), and shop for homeowners insurance. Better produces loan comparison tools and educational content on homeownership such as Mortgage News (which shares industry insights), and Trends Report (a newsletter to help real estate agents support their clients).
History
- Better was originally founded in February 2014[4] by Vishal Garg..[2]
- In 2016, Better closed $30M in Series A funding. That same year, Better launched Better Mortgage, which was approved as a Fannie Mae seller/servicer, and established relationships with 17 mortgage investors.
- The following year, 2017, Better closed $15M in Series B funding with Kleiner Perkins, Goldman Sachs, and Pine Brook.[5]
- By 2018, Better Mortgage had $1 billion in total funded loans and Better Real Estate was launched.
- In 2019, Better Cover and Better Settlement Services[6] launched and joined Better Mortgage and Better Real Estate in the Better collection of offerings. At the end of 2019, Better closed $160M in Series C funding
- In November 2020, Better raised $200M.[7]
