Bhanvi Sachdeva is a Canadian public health advocate and youth activist known for her work on girls' education, menstrual health, and climate change. She is the founder and president of the Articulate Youth Activism Initiative and served as a youth ambassador for Plan International Canada.[1]

Early life and education

Sachdeva was born in Punjab, India, where she spent her childhood. At age twelve, she immigrated to Calgary, Alberta, Canada.[2] She attended Lester B. Pearson High School in Calgary.

She graduated from the University of Toronto Scarborough in 2023 with a Bachelor of Science degree in behavioural neuroscience and a minor in gender studies.[2]

Activism and advocacy

In 2020, Sachdeva founded the Articulate Youth Activism Initiative, an organization that provides an artistic platform to youth from marginalized communities and distributes feminine hygiene products in the community.[1] The organization focuses on girls' education, climate change, and menstrual hygiene awareness.[2] Her interests include the intersections of behaviour, psychology, artificial intelligence and public health.[1]

As a Plan International Canada youth ambassador, Sachdeva was invited to participate in the United Nations Economic and Social Council Youth Forum in April 2023, where she addressed the negative effects of poor menstrual hygiene on access to education, employment, well-being, and migration.[2]

During her time at the University of Toronto, she conducted research on gender issues including access to healthcare for immigrant women and victims of domestic violence, winning an undergraduate research prize.[2]
