Bhikkhu Schober
Bhikkhu Schober, born Klaus Detlef Schober on May 5, 1947, in Bad Segeberg, Germany, is co-founder and President of independent record label New Earth Records.
Early Life
Schober grew up in Hamburg, Germany. After attending business school, he left to travel the world and pursue his studies of meditation and traditional healing music under various masters in India and Nepal.
From an early age, Schober had a strong interest in photography, music, and meditation.
New Earth Records
In 1990, Schober and his partner Waduda Paradiso co-founded independent record label New Earth Records in Munich, Germany. Originally named Tao Music, Schober and Paradiso changed the name soon after its founding, moving the company to Boulder, Colorado in 1995.
New Earth was one of the first record labels to produce and release new age music to the Western world and is currently one of the world’s leading producers of music for relaxation and wellness, such as for yoga, massage, meditation, reiki, spa, and world music.
Schober acts as President and CFO at New Earth Records.[1] He has guided New Earth in its transition from tapes to CDs to digital streaming providers, often resulting in New Earth artists’ music being the first available in its genre on new platforms. He supervised the expansion of New Earth’s distribution network from a single warehouse in Germany to a global network of partners across 92 countries.
Under Schober’s and Paradiso’s leadership, New Earth has signed over 50 artists and released over 280 albums since 1990, earning a Grammy nomination and various other awards.[2]
Schober and Paradiso are involved in various philanthropic endeavors, regularly supporting non-profit organizations dedicated to environmental and climate change issues. They are committed to an eco-conscious lifestyle and have been vegetarian for over 40 years.
Schober lives with his partner Waduda in Boulder, Colorado, where he continues to run New Earth’s creative offices and recently ventured into the world of book publishing.
