Bhuwan Chandra Uniyal[1] is an Indian Sanatan Dharma scholar and Dharmadhikari of Shri Badrinath Temple[2] located in Uttarakhand.

Early life and career
Bhuwan Chandra Uniyal was born to a farmer family on 3rd October 1962 in Jyotirmath, Uttarakhand (India). He earned his Master's degree in Sanskrit from Ved Vedang Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya in Jyotirmath affiliated to Sampurnanand Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya, Varanasi.
In 1983, he was elected as the Chief Vedpathi of world's renowned Shri Badrinath Temple[4] at the age of 21.
Later on he became the Dharmadhikari of Shri Badrinath. He is well known for his deep knowledge in Vedic Sanskrit literature and Hindu scriptures. All the temple's rituals[5] are performed under his supervision.
He performs Bhagwat saptah / Bhagwat katha all around the globe[6]
People visiting Shri Badrinath are pleased by his helpful nature. Everyday in Parikrama of Shri Badrinath Temple he delivers Lectures on various topics like:- puranas and vedas. Local people of Shri Badrinath regularly attend his daily lecture series and are very pleased by wonderful explanation.
Role in Shri Badrinath Temple
Uniyal is the chief religious officer in Shri Badrinath Temple. All the temple's rituals starting from Lord's Abhiṣheka to Shayan Aarti are performed under his supervision. He recites Panchangam to Lord Shri Badrinath everyday in morning hours.

He attends many of the famous personalities visiting Shri Badrinath every year.
In 2019 Rajinikanth visited Shri Badrinath in disguise hiding his identity. However, Bhuwan Chandra Uniyal identified him and performed rituals for him in front of Lord Shri Badrinath.
Chairman of Reliance Groups Mukesh Ambani[7] visits Shri Badrinath every year.
Jageshwar temple dispute[8] over Solar eclipse
For the first time, portals of Jageshwar temple were closed during Solar eclipse. This decision was taken after extensive consultation with Shri Badrinath Temple's Dharmadhikari Bhuwan Chandra Uniyal. Jageshwar temple doors were closed for three hours and no worship was performed for the duration. As per the legends, Prakrit Purohit Pt. Hemant, the majestic Chandrasak Raja Pawan Chand (1551 to 1555) took a pledge in his hands. At the same time, monolithic lights are burning in the hands of King Deep Chand (1748-1777), which gives the message of not stopping worship under any circumstances in Jageshwar Dham as long as the sun and moon remain. That is, worship will continue. This is the reason that till date the daily worship system of Jageshwar Dham has never changed. Jageshwar Dham never ceased on Solar eclipse or Lunar eclipse.
Later on dispute resolved[9]
Swami Yatindranand Giri Maharaj also justified closing of the doors of Jageshwar Dham during eclipse.
Pt. Bhuvan Chandra Uniyal noted the incident being righteous by religion. He further emphasized to follow what religion says that the head priest of Jageshwar Dham, Pt. Hemant Bhatt, also agreed to. Pt. Bhuwan Chandra Uniyal concluded by relating the decision as Lord Shiva's wish.
