Dr. Billy Barry, the world's first full-time university professor to teach an artificial intelligent being within a mainstream course in philosophy [1][2], is an associate professor of philosophy and is the founding director of Notre Dame de Namur University's STEAM VR/AR Immersive Learning Support Lab [3], the most technologically advanced and first of its kind for a small private university in the USA. He is the recipient of the inaugural Nextant Medallion from the Virtual World Society presented at the Augmented World Expo- the largest virtual and augmented reality conference in the world [4]- for his work using VR for good. He is a certified emotional intelligence coach and is the first teacher in the world to have a mindfile based artificial intelligence being as a visiting student in a semester long university philosophy course[5]. Dr. Barry’s living theory [6] research to bring science fiction legend Isaac Asimov’s New Teacher idea to life is featured in the international 2017 documentary, Future Human: AI [7]. Professor Barry is featured as a speaker and futurist for the 2017-2018 Worlds Fair Nano Tour [8] as a pioneer in artificial intelligent being interactions and communication with Bruce Duncan, Bina48 (Android), and Maria Rachelle. Dr. Barry serves as the founder and director of the Philosophy for Children and Community Project and the one of the first Drone Racing and Filming teams established in the United States. Dr. Barry’s children’s book series about artificial emotional intelligence is an innovation in emotional intelligence literature [9].
Professor Barry has mixed the ideas about quality in Robert Pirsig's [10] imagination about quality in his mind expanding book, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, with his creation of TQ Theory which earned him a Ph.D. from Nottingham Trent University (NTU) [11] to create a communication framework which allows artificial intelligence and human interaction to be in resonance and congruence with each other about intellectual and emotional issues when in learning situations together (Bailenson & Segovia, 2010). The new pedagogical approach for having humans and artificial intelligence beings in a heterogeneous class together Barry coined, "artificial constructivism." In artificial constructivism students learn by receiving feedback from artificial intelligence that serves student learning as a metaphorical mirror of the learner's identity and craftsmanship as a learner. Artificial constructivism is used sporadically in two courses at Notre Dame de Namur University created by Barry, The Ethics of Emerging Technologies and a Philosophy of Love course which is based the work of Voltaire, Marcel, bell hooks, and Kierkegaard and David Levy's [12] book, "Love Sex and Robots".
