Binu Pulikkakandam
Binu Pulikkakandam is an Indian politician from Pala, Kottayam, Kerala. He is known for his involvement in municipal politics and his multiple party affiliations during his political career.
Career
Binu Pulikkakandam has been active in Pala municipality for more than 20 years. Throughout his political career, He has been associated with several Indian political parties such as the Indian National Congress, the Bharatiya Janata Party, and the Communist Party of India.He has also contested elections as an independent candidate.[1]
In 2015, he won a municipal seat on a BJP ticket.[1] It was described as the party’s first major win in Pala. Later, in 2020, he won a municipal seat as a CPI(M) candidate, making him one of the few politicians in the municipality to win under a Left-wing symbol.
Binu’s tenure with CPI(M) ended in a controversy when he was expelled from the party for breaches of discipline due to his outspoken criticism of other political leaders and internal party disagreements over leadership positions in the Pala municipality.[2][3]
In 2025, He won Ward 14 in the municipality and an independent and formed an independent "family front" which used a common symbol (Jeep).[4][not in citation given] with his daughter, Diya Binu Pulickakandam, who won from Ward 15 and became the Pala municipality chairperson[5] with the support of the United Democratic Front and his brother, Biju Pulickakandam who won from Ward 13.[6]
