Biotechnology company

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

A biotechnology company, commonly called a biotech or biotec, is a company whose products or services primarily use biotechnology methods for their production, design or delivery.

The United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity defines 'biotechnology' as: "Any technological application that uses biological systems, living organisms, or derivatives thereof, to make or modify products or processes for specific use."[1] In other words, biotechnology can be defined as the mere application of technical advances in life science to develop commercial products.

There are several biotech company lists/database currently available, some more open access than others. BioPharmGuy was launched in 2008 covering worldwide biotech companies and is freely accessible[2] Biotechgate has existed since 2004 and runs on a subscription model. [3] BioDirecta is European-focused directory in existence since 2014. The directory is freely accessible and focuses on biotech patents. [4]
