History[edit]

Abu Moin Mohammad Ashfaqus Samad (1949-1971) was a brave freedom fighter of Bangladesh's independence war. The Bangladesh government awarded him the Bir Uttam title for his bravery in the war of independence. Named after him, this school started in 1974.

The educational institution is managed by the Rangpur Cantonment Board under the Directorate of Military Lands and Cantonment.

Curriculum and teaching process[edit]

The institute follows the curriculum provided by the National Curriculum and Textbook Board. It provides teaching in Sciences and Humanities group. The institute is under Dinajpur Education Board. It is also controlled by Rangpur Cantonment Board.

This institute provides educations from Baby grade to 12 grades only. The students appear for the Junior Secondary Certificate (JSC), Secondary School Certificate (SSC), and the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) exams from the college.

Administrative structure[edit]

Bir Uttam Shaheed Samad School & College are known for their strict and disciplined administration. The administration is run by a strict set of procedures which are common to Cantonment Board. The students are divided into Four houses, Nazrul, Titu Mir, Sher-e-Bangla and Rokeya. They participate in competitions on behalf of their house, and the houses are credited according to the achievements and discipline of the students.

College administration[edit]

The college administration is run under the supervision of a principal appointed either from the Rangpur Cantonment Board. A vice principle and a Assistant teacher from Cantonment Board monitor the disciplinary/administrative activities and Health and Sanitary issues respectively. The academic activities are supervised by the Vice-Principal. The Principal is Mohammad Abdul Hamid. and the Vice Principal is Md. Enamul Karim.

Samadian's appointments/prefects[edit]

Samadian's are appointed as Prefects, chosen from the senior-most class after the departure of a batch. They are inaugurated by College Principal, Vice Principal in the college auditorium. According to seniority prefects are as follows:

  • College Prefect (leads almost 3500+ students, maintains the overall discipline, and works as a bridge between students and the administrative board)
  • 4 House Prefects (In the college)
  • College Games Prefect (in charge of the college games)
  • College Cultural Prefect (in charge of cultural affairs)
  • College Dining Hall and Mosque Prefect (in charge of dining and mosque discipline matters)
  • 3 Assistant House Prefects (assists each of the house prefects)
  • 3 House Games Prefects
  • 3 House Cultural Prefects

Extracurricular activities[edit]

Students participate with the other houses in cultural, athletic, literary, and music competitions. In the playground, they play cricket, football, volleyball, basketball, and athletics as practice or as competition. According to the result of all the competitions, the overall champion house is determined.

The largest event in the college is the annual athletics competition held at the end of the year. Students participate in a major literary and cultural competition and one sports competition held every year among all colleges of Bangladesh.

Success in national and international arena[edit]

2011 – The institution ranked 18th out of 20 institutions that excelled in results in Dinajpur Education Board.[1] 2014 - Ranked 15th among top 20 educational institutions of Dinajpur Education Board.[2] 2015 - 10 institutes of Rangpur placed in top 20 of Dinajpur Board; The institute ranked 17th.
