BirdEye is a business-to-business reputation and customer experience management platform[2][3] headquartered in Palo Alto, California. The software-as-a-service company was founded in 2012 by brothers Naveen Gupta (CEO) and Neeraj Gupta (COO).[4]
BirdEye has partnerships with 250+ reviews sites and social integrations with Google, Facebook, and Twitter.[5][6] The company currently serves over 50K businesses ranging from SMBs to global Fortune 500 brands and digital agencies.[7][8]
As of 2019, BirdEye has over 380[9] employees globally in 4 locations including Palo Alto, Denver, Dallas, and Gurugram, India.[10]
History[edit]
BirdEye was founded in 2012 in Sunnyvale, California and is led by alumni from Google, Amazon, and Yahoo.[11] Naveen and Neeraj Gupta came up with the idea when their mother was hospitalized at Stanford and they had a hard time finding a surgeon with great reviews. After finding a great surgeon with someone’s recommendation, Naveen proclaimed “Patients deserve the best doctors. Similarly, good doctors deserve to tell their story and attract patients.”[12]
Co-founder Naveen Gupta was the Chief Product Officer at RingCentral prior to BirdEye and co-founder Neeraj Gupta was a long time former Engineering architect at Oracle and Yahoo.[13]. The company grew to 300K customers and $887M revenue prior to their IPO in 2013.[14] He held positions of Vice President of Sales at Monster Worldwide, Senior Director of Products at Yahoo, and also led leadership team at UTStarcom.[15]
Funding[edit]
In December 2015, BirdEye raised $8 million in Series A funding round led by Trinity Ventures, Salesforce co-founder Marc Benioff, Yahoo co-founder Jerry Yang, and others.[16][17] The same year, Ajay Chopra, general partner with Trinity Ventures, joined the BirdEye board of directors while Clara Shih, Hearsay Social CEO and Starbucks board member, joined the advisory board.[18][19][20]
In 2017, BirdEye raised $25 million in Series B funding in a round led by Trinity Ventures and World Innovation Lab. As part of the Series B funding round, World Innovation Lab’s Rob Theis also joined BirdEye’s board of directors.[21][22]
Services[edit]
The service is mostly used by businesses to monitor online reviews and generate new reviews.[23] BirdEye’s suite of products includes review monitoring, review generation, review marketing, customer surveys, social listening, social publishing, social engagement, customer support ticketing, listings, webchat, business insights, and competitive benchmarking.[24]
Recognition[edit]
In 2016, the company was recognized as PnP Hottest Startup[25]. In 2017, BirdEye won a Silver Stevie Award for New Product or Service of the Year.[26] In 2019, BirdEye won an additional Stevie Award for the Most Innovative Tech Company of the Year[27] and a TiE50 award for the Most Innovative Tech Startup.[28]
