Birdemic 3: Sea Eagle is a 2022 American romantic thriller-horror film directed, written, and produced by James Nguyen. The sequel to Birdemic: Shock and Terror and Birdemic 2: The Resurrection, both of which have been considered some of the worst films ever made, the plot follows a flock of sea eagles attacking the town of Santa Cruz, California due to worsening climate change.
Synopsis
Evan and Kim's burgeoning romance is put at risk when a flock of sea eagles attack the coastal town of Santa Cruz, California. The two of them meet Rod, the protagonist of the first film, and his girlfriend Katie, and together they must fight to make it out alive. Why did the birds attack? Who will survive?

Production
In a 2016 Vice interview, Nguyen said that he is hoping to eventually make Birdemic 3: Sea Eagle, which would be his last film.[5] In October 2016, an Indiegogo campaign was raised in order to finance the third film of the series. The funding was eventually closed, with only roughly $596 out of the desired $500,000 raised.[6] Production began in 2020 but was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic.[7] It was announced in March 2021 that production on the third installment had officially begun[8] with a planned release in late 2022.[9]
Release
The film held its world premiere at the Fantastic Fest on September 25, 2022.[10][1][11][12] It also premiered at the Roxie Theater on October 8, 2022.[13] It later premiered at the Splat!FilmFest Horror Film Festival on October 26, 2022.[14] It entered a limited theatrical release in New Zealand on January 19, 2023.[3][4] It was later released to digital platforms on January 24, 2023.[15]
Reception
On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, 17% of six critics' reviews are positive, with an average rating of 1.7/10.[16] Brian Orndorf panned the film, stating "A crushingly lifeless continuation of a franchise nobody wants".[17] Louisa Moore reviewed the film, reading "There is sometimes pleasure to be found in god-awful, second-rate films, but in order to provide any sort of amusement a movie still has to be passably watchable. This is not".[18]
Box office
In New Zealand, the film made only $758 in its entire limited run.[3][4]
Possible Sequel
Nguyen has confirmed that he is working on another Birdemic sequel, subtitled Garden of Eden. While discussing Birdemic 3: Sea Eagle in an interview with Dread Central, Nguyen said, "...there's no climate fix. We can't sustain, we cannot have infinite growth on a finite planet. So Birdemic 4 will offer two fixes. First, fix the immediate CO2 issue. Second is we gotta send people up to space. I don't wanna give away the story, but that's Birdemic 4: Garden of Eden."[7]
In March of 2025, Nguyen stated via his Facebook page that his final project before his retirement at age 59 would be BIRDEMIC The Musical, set for a 2026 release. Along with this he advertised the sale of the Birdemic franchise as a whole, leaving the fate of the fourth film unconfirmed.[19]
