Birmingham Tigers Football Club is a men's semi professional football club, based in Smethwick. They play in the Midland Football League - Division Three [1]. The club is a branch of London Tigers a Registered Charity that seeks to provide public benefit to deprived and marginalised inner city communities. Tigers play at Hadley Stadium in Smethwick. Hadley Stadium accommodates 1500 spectators of which 400 are seated with plans to improve and develop the ground in place.
History[edit]
The club was formed in 2009, moving into Adults Saturday football for the 2014/15 season. The clubs first season was in the Birmingham & District Football League Division Six East, where they finished 2nd[2], missing out on the title by two points but still gaining promotion. The club were moved into Division Four [3] for the 2015/16 season, and again competed for the title, despite a points deduction the club managed another second placed finish behind winners, Wake Green Amateurs[4]. A second successive promotion led to Tigers being in Division Three for the 2016/17 season, this time finishing in 7th place[5]. Following a successful application to the Midland Football League, Tigers were placed into the MFL Division Three for the 2017/18 season.
The club's first season in the MFL led to an 11th placed finish [6], with the team also reaching the second round of the Birmingham Vase before being defeated on penalties [7] by Old Wulfrunians of the West Midlands Regional League - Division One. The following season led to a large upheaval in squad and staff, with a number of players moving to play for higher league teams and leaving the team without a recognised first team manager, towards the end of the 2018/19 season, the club appointed Thomas Albutt as their new manager, from Wolverhampton Sporting where he had been first team coach. Albutt's first game in charge saw a 4-3 victory over Castle Vale Town F.C. in April, 2019.
Ground[edit]
The club began their life as an Adult's team in the 2014/15 season, with their games being played at Sedgemere Sports Club [8] in Yardley, Birmingham, it was at Sedgemere that Tigers gained promotion through the Birmingham & District Football League and eventually gained acceptance into the Midland Football League. For the start of the 2018/19 season, the club made the decision to move to Hadley Stadium, Smethwick, due to ground grading criteria and a desire to have a ground capable of promotion into higher leagues.
