Bite Ninja, Inc. is a technology startup company that provides restaurants with a virtual workforce that can take and process orders at drive-throughs and counters.[1] Based in Memphis, Tennessee, Bite Ninja was founded in 2020 by William Clem and Orin Wilson. Bite Ninja acquired over $4 million in pre-seed and seed funding in 2021 from Owl Ventures, Y Combinator, AgFunder, Manta Ray, and TRAC Unicorn Fund. Bite Ninja’s technology debuted to consumers in October 2021 at 27 Chop Stop locations. It is also available at 7 Taco Mayo locations.[2] Bite Ninja is continuing to expand to national restaurant chains.

History[edit]

Bite Ninja was founded by William Clem, who is also the co-founder of Upside Foods (formerly Memphis Meats) and the Baby Jack’s restaurant chain, and Orin Wilson, a financial professional and investor. The idea for Bite Ninja was born at Clem’s Baby Jack’s drive-thru in Tennessee. One Friday night, Clem decided to prop his laptop at the drive-thru lane and take orders from home via Zoom, and no one noticed he wasn't in the kitchen.[3] Clem partnered with Orin to make virtual capabilities a possibility for fast casual and fast food restaurants. Today, the company has more than 300 employees.

The company was formally incorporated in 2020 and introduced to investors with its pre-seed round in July 2021, raising $675,000 from Y Combinator, Manta Ray, and AgFunder.[4] In September 2021, Bite Ninja closed its seed funding round with $4 million from Owl Ventures, AgFunder, Manta Ray, and TRAC Unicorn Fund.[5]

Bite Ninja acquired point-of-sale software company Zenu in December 2021[6] and moved into a new headquarters in Memphis in February 2022.[7]

Recognition[edit]

In August 2021, Bite Ninja was ranked one of the top 10 innovators in the restaurant tech section by Spoon University.[8]
