B. Bix Aliu is a diplomat specialized in foreign diplomatic missions of United States, in the past representing it's interests in Albania, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Poland, and the United Arab Emirates. Currently, since January 2021, he serves as chargé d'affaires in embassy of the United States in Warsaw, Poland. Prior to that, he was the deputy chief of mission in Warsaw embassy, serving in the office since 2019.[1]
Previously, he served as an United States Consul General in Kraków, Poland and before that as an deputy chief of mission in the US embassy in Podgorica, Montenegro.[1]
Political career[edit]
Bix began his Foreign Service career for United States in 1999 when he was involved in negotiations of Rambouillet Agreement, as a member of the U.S. Special Envoy to Kosovo.[1]
During his diplomatic career, Bix was detailed to the United States Congress as a Pearson Congressional Fellow and served as a special advisor to the representative of Virginia's 2nd congressional district. He also served at the Department of State's National Foreign Affairs Training Center where he helped in training of future US foreign delegates. During his career he represented the United States interests in Albania, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Poland, and the United Arab Emirates.[1]
Until 2004 he served a vice-consul and deputy cultural attaché at the embassy of the United States in Warsaw, Poland. Later he served as an deputy chief of mission in the US embassy in Podgorica, Montenegro, where he often acted as a chargé d’affaire. After that, he served as Consul General in Kraków, Poland, where he worked to advance of economic and cultural ties between the city and United States. On June 2019 he was assigned to embassy in Warsaw and assisted US ambassador Georgette Mosbacher.[1] His work included involvement in the project of abolition of visa requirement for Polish citizents in travel to United States.[2] He begun chargé d'affaires for Warsaw embassy, after ambassador Georgette Mosbacher ended her diplomatic mission on 20 January 2021 and will remain in the position until appointment of the new ambassador.[3][2]
Bix has received numerous State Department Awards, including seven Superior Honor Awards, six Meritorious Honor Awards, and Senior Foreign Service Performance Awards. He was selected as a member of the inaugural class of Colin Powell Fellows, a program for select foreign service officers who demonstrate inspiring qualities of excellence and leadership. In 2008, the Albanian-American community of Chicago, Illinois chose Bix as "Person of the Year". In 2014, he was featured as one of the top 150 Albanian-American Success Stories among the Albanian-American Community in the U.S. In 2019, the mayor of Kraków decorated Bix with the Honoris Gratia Medal, the city’s highest honor, for his significant advancement of economic and cultural ties between the United States and Kraków.[1]
Private life[edit]
Bix Aliu grow up in Chicago metropolitan area, United States. He is married and has two children.[1]
He holds medical degree from the University of Pristina and strategic studies degree from the United States Army War College. He speaks fluently in English, Albanian, Serbo-Croatian, Macedonian and Polish.[1]
