Blacklight Media Records is a subsidiary of Metal Blade Records.[1] They are known for having signed bands such as Oni and Mother Feather.[2][3] The label is owned by American celebrity chef Chris Santos.[4]
History[edit]
Blacklight Media Records was founded by Chris Santos and Metal Blade CEO Brian Slagel.[4] The labels launch was covered in publications such as The Wall Street Journal, BrooklynVegan and Blabbermouth.net.[1][5][6][7] Blacklight Media Records first release was the album A Head Full Of Midnight by the band Good Tiger, best known for their drummer, Alex Rüdinger.[8]
Santos has made it clear that he is seeking to create a label for developing artists. Sirius XM host Jose Mangin said the label "doesn't fit into one box, one envelope." [4][9] Early signings ranged saw artists in the cock rock progressive metal, stoner rock and doom metal genres.[2][3][6][10] This garnered the attention of Food & Wine who noted Santos's "compulsively scouring the Internet to find new bands".[4]
Another goal of Blacklight Media has been to use Santos's celebrity outside of heavy metal to provide more coverage of the artists he represents. This is exemplified by Santos being featured in diverse platforms including Forbes and the Food Network's series Chopped.[11][12] He has collaborated with Mayhem Festival 2013 and Ozzy's Boneyard in conjunction with his work with the label.[13]
