Blasius Anton Kovacsevich (Kraljeva Velika, near Jasenovac in the Gradiscaner border districts in 1738 - Brussels, 31 May 1791) was an Austrian major general.[1]
Biography[edit]
Blasius started his career by following the footsteps of his father Elias Kovacsevich (Ilija Kovačević), a captain of the Gradiscaner regiment, and was ennobled for his services in 1759.[2]Blasius served in the Gradiscaner Regiments when he became a Captain in the Seven Years' War and was made Major in the Bavarian War of Succession. In December 1785 he advanced to lieutenant colonel in the Brooder Grenz Regiment, and still in November the same year, he was promoted to Colonel in the Gradiscaner Regiments. On 1 June 1789, he took Berkso Castle by surprise, defeated the Turks, and took 4 cannons from them. In the French Revolutionary War he commanded the Third Slavonian battalion. In 1793 he fought at Gleisweiler and Weier and, after his horse had been wounded, led his battalion on foot towards the enemy. He gave new proofs of his courage in Bergzabern, in the capture of the Weissenburg lines, and in the defense of Reichshofen. In the same year he advanced to major general, and as such led a brigade in the Battle of Tournay, but for the last time, fatally wounded in the battle, he passed away a few days later in Brussels at the age of 56.
Johann Kovacsevich [3] is the brother of Blasius.
