Bloodlines is the fourteenth studio album by the band Midnight Syndicate, released August 20, 2021. The album is the prequel to the 2005 album, The 13th Hour. Venturing further into the history of the Haverghast family introduced in the 2001 album Gates of Delirium, Bloodlines is a "cinema of the mind"[1] project similar to both its predecessors, where the track list is a scene guide to a movie that must be imagined while listening.

Background and information

The album was originally announced on Facebook on July 8, 2021 before its subsequent release the following August. The album takes place in-universe before the events of The 13th Hour, but "how long before is left up to the listener".[2] according to Edward Douglas, one of the members of Midnight Syndicate. The album is meant to stand on its own stylistically, but should "flow seamlessly" into The 13th Hour[2]

Release

Bloodlines was released and self-distributed through Entity Productions in CD format on August 20, 2021, with accompanying launches on Spotify, Amazon, Apple Music, iTunes, YouTube, deezer, and qobuz.[3]

Reception

The album was favorably received, with fans noting that the album was a return to earlier sounds but building on what had come before; it "flows like a throwback to some of Midnight Syndicate’s earliest work but with a modern styling and refined edge — a deliberate work rather than an experimental one".[4]
