Bobsled and Skeleton Federation of Nigeria

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Comment Wouldn't being the first federation in Africa for bobsled and skeleton, which has also participated in the Olympics, already show notability? Also, the skeleton athlete is not part of the bobsled team. Nigeria is a tropical country, while these are winter sports, not practicable in Nigeria, necessitating foreign training. -- 65.94.42.219 (talk)

The Bobsled & Skeleton Federation of Nigeria (BSFN) is the national federation of Nigeria in charge of accreditation for tobogganing in the disciplines of bobsled and skeleton of the sliding sports, a set of ice sports in winter sport. The sports federation is a member of the international sports governing body International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF, formerly FIBT), and a recognized authorizing body for the Nigeria Olympic Committee.

It was formed to accredit the Nigeria bobsled team to allow it to compete at the 2018 Winter Olympics, bringing Nigeria to its first Winter Olympics, which it achieved, in 2-women bobsled and 1-woman skeleton. It is the first federation in Africa, and thus the first team sent to the Olympics from Africa is from this federation.[1][2][3][4]

Staffing[edit]

History[edit]

Seun Adigun became interested in 2014 of forming a bobsledding team for the Olympics. She raised $75,000 in a GoFundMe campaign, which was enough to move the government of Nigeria into getting together to form a federation for the sport, and start the Nigeria bobsled team. The federation was established in 2016.[2][3]

Solomon Ogba became president of BSFN. BSFN retained Temple Management Company (TMC) as their public relations firm in Nigeria.[3][6]

The BNSF contingent at the 2018 Winter Olympics formed the whole complement of Nigeria at the Games, the first delegation for Nigeria at any Winter Games. It included a team for bobsleigh and a competitor in skeleton. The bobsled team was composed of captain Seun Adigun, and brakemen Ngozi Onwumere and Akuoma Omeoga. The skeleton rider was Simidele Adeagbo.[4]

The BNSF contingent returned to Nigeria in March 2018 to celebrate their historic participation at the Winter Olympics.[6]
