Boiling Steel is a first-person shooter and story-oriented, dynamic virtual reality (VR) video game shooter with procedurally generated locations and crafting in the futuristic world of mankind's extinction, developed by the Ukraine-based MiroWin studio. The game was planned for release on Steam's Early Access program in July 2019 and is slated for full release in Q4 2019.[1][2][3]
Plot
In the game, you will find yourself isolated on a secret space station. All the people most likely died. There are no feedback signals from the surface. Your body is in a cryogenic capsule, but your consciousness is free. Life systems are damaged. The station is on the verge of destruction. To survive, you have to explore the planet through the remote hacking of robotic shells, as an operator. Outdated robot models are available for control, and their modified tools will be your weapons.[4]
Gameplay
In Boiling Steel, you will be part of a special defensive program controlling the development of combat artificial intelligence. To eliminate emergencies, a network of nuclear installations was created around the planet. Specially trained personnel were put into hibernation so that, at a crucial moment, the protection mechanism could be activated. You “woke up” alone, and all humans have disappeared. No one has contacted you, and there is no possibility to get out of the shelter. Life support systems are damaged; the final countdown begins. You do not have much time to fix the situation. Find resources as soon as possible and restore your base. Explore various biomes of the planet: the black sands of the desert, scientific stations frozen in the ice, deep underground mines, and cities in the clouds. Visit all locations in search of answers. The central terminal will help you connect to the available robots that remained on the planet. Scan zones in search of suitable machines. Take them under your control for resource extraction and defensive systems bypass. Every action you take consumes energy; don't make mistakes. [5]
Reception
The alpha version of the game was already covered by YouTubers such as Paradise Decay, Twiejk, Rhys da King, PlayStation Prospect, and others. Following the launch of Tesla charging stations and plans about Hyperloop in Ukraine, American entrepreneur Elon Musk is reportedly related to the game's financing. This was reported by the Canadian publication VR Live Now and not refuted by the developer company. "Boiling Steel" is already nominated for the GTP Indie Cup 2019 and WEGAME 2019.[6][7][8][9][10][11]
Development
Boiling Steel is being developed by MiroWin studio by an international team of developers, mostly located in Ukraine. In February 2019, a developer of the VR game Boiling Steel fell from the 3rd floor while testing a prototype of the game's teleport, but survived and returned to work after 4 days. During 2017–2018, MiroWin released their previous VR games—the shooter-westerns Guns'n'Stories: Preface VR and Guns'n'Stories: Bulletproof VR.[12][13][14]
