Bollywood Hundred Crore Club
It has been suggested that this article be merged into List of highest-grossing Indian films worldwide. (Discuss) Proposed since December 2013. |
Bollywood's 100-Crore Club consists of films with over ₹100 crore (US$14 million) nett (after deducting Entertainment tax) in India.[1][2] As of December 2013, 26 films have entered the 100-crore club.[3][4][5][6][7] In 2012, nine films made it to the 100 crore club.[8][9][10] Bollywood 100 crore club is created by Bollywood trade magazines, trade experts, analysts and media.
History[edit]
Fudging of Boxoffice collections by producers and exhibitors[edit]
There is no official tracker of Boxoffice collections in India like in Hollywood where Box Office Mojo is the official tracker of Hollywood films and all the figures are consistent and exactly the same. Hollywood studios submit weekly box-office estimates to the Cinematographers Rental Society (KRS) which compiles them — and as members of the Motion Pictures Association of America (MPAA), they share the collections on a weekly basis as per studio guidelines. Since independent releases are minimal, their collections are easier to monitor.[11] However in Bollywood, figures of Box Office India are used as a pretty reliable source. Of late,in India there have been claims that the figures given by production houses and exhibitors are inflated and more than what the distributors are giving. Films like Krrish 3 have been in controversy for fudging the boxoffice numbers by almost ₹60 crore (US$8.3 million).[12][13][14][15] Some producers are showing the gross figures(includes Entertainment tax) as original figures instead of nett. collections in India.[16][17]

Speed to the 100-Crore net mark in India[edit]
The significance of the Rs.100 crore level for trade, is its earnings after paying Entertainment tax that can be as high as 25%. Secondly, the money made overseas is over and above this. Lastly, it does not take into account other revenue streams that flow in from satellite rights, music and digital.[18][19][20][21] The domestic net gross of films Singham, Son of Sardaar, Race 2 and gaand masti are disputed. According to Box Office India, Singham had a domestic net gross of ₹97 crore (US$13 million),[22] Son of Sardaar net grossed ₹88 crore (US$12 million) in four weeks,[23][24][25] Race 2 nett grossed ₹96 crore (US$13 million) [26][27][28][29] and gaand masti nett. grossed ₹92 crore (US$13 million).[30][31] On August 24, 2013, Chennai Express was reported to cross the Rs 202.57 crore mark, beating the record set by Aamir Khan's 3 Idiots and became the highest grosser in Bollywood as it went on to nett. gross in the excess of Rs 227 crore domestically.[32][33][34][35][36]
