Bootay: Romanzo di Provincia (Romance of Province) is a 2025 Italian sports documentary film written and directed by Johnny Calà. It is the sequel of Calà's Bootay: Untold - The art of losing (2024).[1][2][3]
Plot
In the town of Verona, Italy, new talents and veterans of provincial football prepare to chase the prestigious Nievo Cup, the city's seven-a-side football tournament. Unexpected challenges, heated rivalries, and a mysterious curse that seems to loom over their fate, will force the Bootay FC team to deal with something bigger than the simple verdict on the pitch.
Production
While presenting the first chapter of the saga on Sky Sport 24, director Johnny Calà said that discussions were underway for the making of a sequel, which would follow the new season of the seven-a-side football team Bootay FC.[1]
As its predecessor, the film features several former stars of Italian youth football, whose careers were stalled, often without ever making it to the professional ranks.[3][2]
Former Serie A's stars Sergio Pellissier, Pietro Fanna and Juanito Gòmez are interviewed in the film to testify to the difficulties in Italian youth football.[1]
The film was produced by Alexander Intermite and the Milanese company The Best Organization s.r.l.[1]
Release
The film had a limited distribution in Italian theatres in December 2025.[1] On February 12, 2026, it was released on Amazon Prime Video in Italy and Spain.
