Bordoodle
The Bordoodle (also known as "borderdoodle") is a crossbreed dog between a Border Collie and a Poodle.
The Bordoodle typically has traits of being very smart, athletic, low to non-shedding, loyal and affectionate, and ideal for families and children.
Size
The bordoodle bred from a standard poodle has a shoulder height of 18-22 inches[1] and typically weighs 40-55 lbs. When bred to a miniature poodle the shoulder height is 15-18 inches and typically weighs 20-35 lbs
Coat
Bordoodle coats are typically curly, wavy and non-shedding or low shedding.[2]
Color
Bordoodle colors range are black, brown, grey, lilac, with or without white markings and merle pattern is also possible. The poodle parent dictates the amount of white markings present and a parti poodle must be used for the Border Collie traditional Irish Spotting gene to be present in the Bordoodle offspring.
Eyes
Generally, bordoodles have dark and light brown eyes, but because of the Border Collie genetics they are known to have blue eyes on rare occasion
Lifespan
The bordoodle usually has a life expectancy of between 12 - 15 years. [3]
Training
Early socialization and training is highly recommended for this cross breed. Training bordoodles requires fairness, firmness, consistency, praise and respect. They are very smart and excel in competitive obedience, agility, retrieving, acting as therapy dogs, herding, and tricks[4]
Appearance and temperament
Because the Bordoodle is a crossbreed and not a breed, puppies do not have consistently predictable characteristics. While most bordoodles have some common traits, the appearance and characteristics are, to some degree, unpredictable.
Because they are a cross between the two smartest dogs in the world, they are commonly known to possess a wonderful mind. Only the most experience dog owners should consider this cross. These dogs are active both physically and mentally. They always want a job to do and have a hard time relaxing. These are not dog suggest for first time dog owners or families with small children. Both border collies and poodles can be dominant and not tolerant of small children.
