Born Demon is the sixth studio album by the Norwegian heavy metal band Sahg. It was released on October 21, 2022, under Drakkar Entertainment. [1] [2] It is the band's first album in six years, following Memento Mori in 2016.
A music video was made for "Heksedans" (the first single of the album), directed by Francisco Muñoz. The song is a heavy metal version of a 1977 Norwegian pop hit by Bergen singer-songwriter Jan Eggum.[3] On June 10, a lyric video was released for the single "Born Demon". On July 28, a music video for the third single "Fall Into the Fire" was released, directed by British company Drain Hope. On September 19, 2022, the fourth single and music video "House of Worship" was released and produced by På Film.
Background
Born Demon is Sahg's first album presented as a three-piece band, due to Ole Walaunet's (a.k.a. Lust Kilman) refusal to continue with the group. Instead, the album was recorded with Olav Iversen playing all guitars. [4]
Lyrically, the album features the dark traditionalism of doom metal: a penchant for the occult (as in "Heksedans") and demonic ("Born Demon"), an aversion to religion ("House of Worship") and a gloomy feeling of an inevitable apocalypse ("Destroyer of the Earth").
Drummer Mads Lilletvedt said about the album:
| “ | […] From the pile-driving occult doom of the title track to the widescreen menace of the closing "Destroyer Of The Earth", Born Demon sounds more like a kicking, spitting debut record than our sixth opus. Forged around the fizzing chemistry enjoyed by Olav Iversen, Mads Lilletvedt (that’s me!) and bassist Tony Vetaas, we’ve obviously stripped things down to the beautiful basics. [...][5] | ” |
