Development
Borno is developed by Jayed Ahsan Saad. The layout, Borno Phonetic, uses some open source codes.
Features
Borno has customizable mode switching with automatic tracking and has a larger field of compatibility. Users can get all popular Bengali typing methods in a single software.
Other features include:
- Auto Completion: Borno comes with a special feature for the fixed keyboard layouts
- Keyboard Shortcuts: Borno comes with a keyboard shortcut feature. So, the users don’t need to use the mouse every time for switching between keyboard layouts.
- One Font, 2 Encodings: Borno comes with a font named Bornomala which is a bit different from the other Bengali fonts. Users can write Bangla and English in both Unicode and non-Unicode supported softwares with switching to other font. It also supports Borno’s special encoding, which can be used for typing Bangla in non-Unicode supported softwares.
- Unicode and other encoding support: Borno supports writing Bengali text in Unicode and other encodings. But just because Bengali language is a complex language script & only Unicode has the full support, therefore 'Unicode' is the default output rendering for Borno.
- English to Bengali phonetic typing: If 'ami banglay likhbo' is typed then ‘আমি বাংলায় লিখব’ will be written.
- Fixed keyboard layout-based typing: Borno comes with three fixed keyboard layouts: Borno, Borno Encoding and National. Borno is mainly developed for typing Bangla in fixed keyboard layouts.
- Customizable mode-switching (single key): Single key combination can be used to switch between languages.
- Automatic keyboard mode tracking: If Bengali and English are being typed in two different programs then Borno can detect the mode and can continue typing in the correct language.
- Keyboard layout viewer: Borno has a keyboard layout viewer.
- The most powerful Keyboard layout Editor: New Keyboard layouts can be created or the character settlement of existing keyboard keys (except the default layout: Borno) can be rearranged by using the Borno Keyboard Layout Editor. Users can create any layout with any encoding for any language.
