History
Bounce was founded in 2018 by Cody Candee in San Francisco, California.[1] The founder, an avid traveler, aimed to create a service to eliminate the inconvenience of carrying luggage before check-in or after check-out times.[2]
In 2020, Bounce relocated from San Francisco to Lisbon, Portugal[3] and has since seen significant growth, backed by several rounds of venture capital funding. In 2022, Bounce secured $12 million in a Series A funding round.[4] This was followed by a $19 million Series B funding round in November 2024, led by Sapphire Sport. Other investors in the company include Andreessen Horowitz, General Catalyst, Thayer Ventures, and FJ Labs.[5][6] The stated purpose of the Series B funding was to expand Bounce's network of storage locations, with a particular focus on the Asia-Pacific region, and to develop new services.
By late 2024, Bounce's network had expanded to over 13,000 partner locations in 4,000 cities across 100 countries, and the company reported having stored over six million bags since its inception.[7]
This period of rapid expansion was recognized by Inc. Magazine's list of the fastest-growing private companies in America at number 8 in 2024 with19,783% 3-Year Growth.[8]
Services
Bounce's core service is short-term luggage storage, which can be booked through the company's website or mobile application.
