Boys Be is the second extended play by South Korean group Seventeen. It was released on September 10th 2015 by Pledis entertainment and distributed by Leon entertainment. The release proved to be a massive success for the group, with total physical sales of over 120,000 physical copies in 2015, making it one of the best selling releases of the year.[1]
Background[edit]
On August 31st 2015 Pledis entertainment released a teaser image of the group as a phone wallpaper with the date of September 10th on the screen, hinting at an imminent comeback. This was then followed up on September 2nd with the official announcement that the mini-album was to be called Boys Be. The track list was revealed on September 3rd as was the information that the mini-album would come in both "Hide" and "Seek" editions. The title track for the EP was revealed to be Mansae.[2]
Release[edit]
The EP was released on September 10th 2015. To promote the album, Seventeen performed Mansae on various music shows, including their comeback stage on M Countdown.[3]
Commercial Performance[edit]
Boys Be proved to be a commercial success for the group, easily eclipsing their previous effort 17 Carat. In its opening week the album debuted at number 2 on the Gaon weekly charts. On the monthly Gaon Charts for September Boys Be came in at number 4, selling 38,002 copies.[4] In October it moved up to number 3, selling 67,192 copies. raising the total sales to over 100,000 copies.[5] Year end sales for the EP totalled 122,784 physical copies (Gaon does not record digital sales), making it the 15th best selling release of 2015. In celebration of this, Seventeen held a four date Christmas concert series entitled "2015 LIKE SEVENTEEN - Boys Wish". Tickets for the event were sold out within one minute of release.[6] The album also reached the top spot on Billboards World album charts.[7]
