Brandibelly is a Philippine-based, Visayan rock band from Cagayan de oro City. The band name is derived from a play of words of "BeerBelly", combining brandy, meaning "liquor", and belly. Their musical influences came from pop punk and alternative-jazz genres fused together to form a catchy and danceable type of music coming straight from the heart. They are one of the more popular bands in the Bisrock scene in the Philippines and they have since released two albums since their formation in 2007. In 2016, they released their single "Kaniadto" and in 2018 released "Luwas Ka sa ako" and then "Laylo" in 2020.

Formation and history

The band started in December 2007 and was originally composed of Lic Rebolos (vocals), Jerome Nalasa (guitar), Michael Cuyos (guitar), Jet Perez (bass), Mc'borz Somoza (drums). After their initial months, the band decided to replace bassist Jet Perez and their friend Enrell wabe stepped in. The band continued with performing and making their name in the local music scene; they built their reputation by joining band competitions and qualifying in the 2008 Nescafe Soundskool in Davao. However, finding the right bass player was still a problem so in early 2008 the band replaced Enrell wabe with Teddy (Lic's younger brother and guitar-vocals of the band The Cousins. They continued making waves in the scene by performing in underground gigs.

As time went on, the struggle to find permanent band members presented itself once again occur when Michael Cuyos opted to leave the band for work out of town, Teddy readily stepped in as guitarist and it was at that time when their friend Adam Datoy (bassist with Novelista Pasta) came in as bassist.

In 2009, Mc'borz Somoza (drums) suddenly left the band and was nowhere to be found; the band needed a replacement immediately so Adam Datoy recommended the band's close friend Adonis Berongoy (drummer Novelista Pasta) to take his place as drummer. From then on, Lic, Jerome, Teddy, Adam, Adonis went on as Brandibelly to become semifinalist again in Nescafe Soundskool 2010 with their original composition "PANGAKO", also officially entering the bisrock scene.

Their first break came when their single "Jason" was played on air and was followed with their second single "Asa Ka Karon". It was then when their reputation as a band started to be recognized not only by fellow musicians but also by fans of the Bisrock genre. Their next big break came in 2010 when they were commissioned to compose and record a jingle for MAG TV NA ATO NI (a local TV program from ABS-CBN) to be used as the show's soundtrack. Brandibelly continued on with a series of gigs, radio and TV guesting and in 2012 they released their first album CHIKAY SA PALASYO at Ocho bistro, this time with John Erickson Gloria on guitars because Jerome Nalasa opted to pursue a more steady job out of town. After the successful launching of their first album, they toured around Bukidnon, Lanao del norte, Zamboanga del sur and Misamis Oriental with other Bisrock bands from CDO and Cebu. It was during one of those Mindanao-wide gigs that one of the sponsors (Uy Masuy Wine Factory) decided to produce their second album to be recorded in Cebu, and so their second album MARIA CLARA was conceptualized, with Butch Macaltao as session drummer.
