Brandon Crane (born Feb 26, 1976)[1] is an American actor, best known for his roles as Doug Porter in the TV series The Wonder Years and Ben Hanscom in Stephen King's It. Since 1980, he has appeared in several commercials and television series. He is the grandson of actor and broadcaster Fred Crane, who spoke the first lines in the film Gone With the Wind.

Early life and career[edit]

Brandon Crane was born in Oceanside, California. At age four he started appearing in commercials.

In 1983 he was a voice actor in It's an Adventure, Charlie Brown.

In 1985 he appeared as Smith Sterling in the short-lived CBS Television series Otherworld for two episodes. He was replaced by Chris Hebert.[2]

Between 1987 and 1992 Crane had guest-starring roles in Step by Step, Get a Life, Generations, It's Garry Shandling's Show, Full House, Mr. Belvedere and The Munsters Today.

Crane played the recurring role of Doug Porter in the TV series The Wonder Years for which he would win a Young Artist Award for Best Young Actor Guest-Starring or Recurring Role in a TV Series.[3] Over the next few years he would appear in a handful of made-for-television films: Hiroshima Maiden (1988), Backfield in Motion (1991), and Stephen King's It (1990) in which he played Ben Hanscom with John Ritter earning a Young Artist Award nomination for Best Young Actor Starring in a TV Movie, Pilot, or Special.[4]

On the upcoming feature film remake of "IT" and attached director Cary Joji Fukunaga Crane said, "I love his style. I’m a big fan, and if I think there’s anybody out there who could do that job justice it would be Fukunaga - There’s so much that we couldn’t do [in our show] with regards to the content. I think you’d end up with a two-part feature that will be much closer to the book."[5]

Crane resides in Clovis, CA.[6]
