Braun Research is a private Marketing and Public Opinion Research firm. Based out of Princeton, New Jersey, the firm focuses on local statewide polls but have also performed national and international polls.[1][2]

History[edit]

Founded and owned by Paul Brown in 1995, the company is a member of the American Association for Public Opinion Research, International Association for Measurement and Evaluation of Communication and Insights Association. The firm has performed at least 11,000 polls, and specialize in telephone surveying.[1][3][4] FiveThirtyEight has ranked Braun as a B/C listed pollster, having accurately predicted six elections.[5]

Notable studies[edit]

Several of Braun's studies have been included in major news stories:

  • On February 27, 2012, The New York Times used one of their surveys performed for Merrill Lynch & Co. to report that both the 99% and 1%'s top concern is the rising price of healthcare in the United States.[6]
  • On December 3, 2012, the Houston Business Journal cited a survey performed by Braun for Capital One which showed a decrease in business optimism in Texas.[7]
  • On November 19, 2013, Entrepreneur cited a study by Braun for the Pew Research Center which stated that Millennials, then still known as Gen Y, where less satisfied in life than previous generations.[8]
  • On June 30, 2014, Forbes cited a Braun study on behalf of Bank of America which found that more Millennials value their phones over personal hygiene.[9]
  • On October 28, 2014, ALM cited a Braun poll that most Millennials blame their student loan debt for their poor retirement savings.[10]
  • On March 13, 2015, The Wall Street Journal cited a Braun study that 82% of adults reported having chores growing up in an article supporting making children do chores.[11]
  • On May 19, 2015, The New York Times cited a Braun study on behalf of AT&T that found that 61% of individuals aged 16 to 65 admit to frequently texting while driving.[12]
  • On December 24, 2015, the Tampa Bay Times reported on a study they commissioned Braun to preform which found the city of Tampa Bay was divided by neighborhood as to where the new Tampa Bay Rays stadium should be built.[13]
  • On July 31, 2017, a Monmouth University study using Braun data found that only 59% of New Jersyites had a positive rating for living in the state, a decrease from 62% in 2016.[14]
  • On August 1, 2017, the Washington Examiner cited a Braun poll that saw 82% of African Americans support higher quality public schools.[15]
  • On November 29, 2018, a Monmouth University study using Braun data found that 78% of Americans acknowledge Climate change and that 64% of Republicans acknowledged climate change, up from 49% in 2015.[16]
  • On June 14, 2019, Bank of America cited a Braun study for Merrill Edge, that 9 in 10 Americans believe the way they managed their money would make their parents proud.[17]
  • On February 13, 2020, Vermont Public used Braun Research to conduct polls for the 2020 United States presidential election.[18]
  • On March 4, 2020, Maryland Matters, citing a Braun poll on behalf of the Alliance for Infant Lifetime Care, reported that 85% of Marylanders supported creating a fund to support children born with disabilities.[19]
  • On Apr 27, 2020, Paul Braun gave an interview to News 12 Networks that his company noticed people where "desperate" to talk to "anyone" during the COVID-19 pandemic, and that oftentimes when called for a poll it was a challenge to get the person to conclude the poll and hang up.[20]
  • On February 17, 2023, the New Jersey Monitor reported on a poll by Braun for Fairleigh Dickinson University which found that 81% of New Jersyites claimed the two party system was not working, and that 68% of New Jersyites believed Fusion voting would better express citizens’ views.[21]
  • On August 29, 2023, Braun preformed a poll which showed a steep drop in support for wind power among New Jersyites, dropping from 76% to 54% as Governor Murphy plans on massively expanding wind turbines off Monmouth county as part of Ocean Wind.[22]
