Brazilian Top Team Canada *(BTT Canada) is an association of mixed martial arts schools begun in 2003 by Fabio Holanda, a third-degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Philip Gelinas. The Canadian organization is an offshoot of Brazilian Top Team,where Fabio Holanda trained with legendary Murilo Bustamante former UFC Middleweight Champion of the world, PRIDE and the legendary Carlson Gracie Team Black Belt before coming to Canada.

The Journey from Brazil to Canada[edit]

In 2003, one of BTT's Black-Belt member, Fabio "The Mastermind" Holanda, came to Canada and established BTT Canada, the first Brazilian Top Team school outside of Brazil. Fabio is both an accomplished BJJ and MMA competitor. He also the trained many of MMA's top athletes including UFC fighters Georges St-Pierre, Patrick Côté , Lee "The Beast" Villeneuve as well numerous elite grapplers and MMA fighters. Holanda has also cornered some of Canada's most prominent mixed martial artists, including UFC Georges St. Pierre, Patrick Côté, David Loiseau and Ivan Menjivar. Fabio Holanda has also enjoyed success in BJJ and submission wrestling competitions. He has achieved victories over notable grapplers and UFC veterans such as Jeff Joslin and Kenny Florian. Fabio has helped establish BTT Canada as one of the top Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu programs in the country.

In 2014, Fabio Holanda has coached as an assistant to Canadian coach Patrick "Predator" Cote on the television series of #TUF The Ultimate Fighter Team Canada vs. Team Australia and Australian Coach Kyle Noke as part of the UFC network. This was the first time the series was aired on French Media with TVA Sports. The Ultimate Fighter Nations: Canada vs. Australia is an installment of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC)-produced reality television series The Ultimate Fighter. It is the fifth series produced outside the United States and the first filmed in Canada. The series was officially announced by the UFC in June 2013. The coaches were announced as Patrick Côté representing Canada and Kyle Noke representing Australia. This marks the second time, following The Ultimate Fighter: The Smashes, that two former contestants from The Ultimate Fighter show are both coaches.The show debuted on January 15, 2014. This season is the second to air on FX Australia. It also airs in the United States on Fox Sports 1. The TUF Nations Finale will be held in Quebec City, Quebec on April 16, 2014.

BTT History[edit]

Founder and Legend of BTT (Brazilian Top Team) "Murilo Bustamante" a member of the legendary Carlson Gracie Team, a 5th Degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt, Brazilian Vale Tudo Champion, World Jiu-Jitsu Championship 1999, PRIDE Championships( 4) Four times Brazilian National Champion and former "UFC" Middleweight Champion of the World.

BTT Canada academies emphasize Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), and are attended by both recreational athletes , competitive and professional #MMA martial artists. In addition to BJJ, arts such as Boxing, Muay Thai, Judo and Wrestling are taught at some schools in the network. Prior to 2011, the association was headquartered in the Gelinas Academy of Mixed Martial Arts GAMMA in downtown Montreal, where Fabio Holanda taught and trained. Since 2011,BTT Canada has established a new headquarter in the core of downtown Montreal.

The BTT association comprises some of the most established Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu schools in Canada, where BJJ was all but unheard of until recent years. There are 17 black belts,many brown belts and purple belts at BTT Canada schools, a high number for Canadian gyms. Jiu jitsu tournaments are held at the Montreal school several times a year and all schools in the network regularly host seminars by Top specialists in BJJ ex: Victor "SHAOLIN" Ribeiro* and other styles . The BTT Family is very active in high-level competition locally and worldwide. The BTT Canada team has won consistently in numerous tournaments since 2003.
