The Breakthrough Party describes itself as a grassroots democratic socialist party in 2020 in the UK seeking to stand up for people whose interests are ignored by the mainstream parties: renters, precarious workers, LGBTQ+ people, and BME communities.[citation needed] In 2021, in May 2021 they nominated their first candidate for parliament in the 2021 Chesham and Amersham by-election: Carla Gregory, a single mother-of-two from Amersham.[4]
