Brett Leigh Dicks

Brett Leigh Dicks (born 1964), is an Australian/American photographer.

Life and work[edit]

Dicks was born in Sydney. Between 1988 and 1991 he studied Applied Science at the Sydney Institute of Technology before undertaking a Graduate Diploma in Microscopy & Microimaging at the University of Sydney.[1] He contributed photographs to numerous research papers in the field of microbial and invertebrate biology [2] as well as to the book Seen & Unseen: Discovering the Microbes of Yellowstone.[3]

In 1993 Dicks left Australia for the United States where he staged several exhibitions of his work prior to returning to Australia the following year. He staged his first major Australian exhibition in 1995 at the Lewis Morley Photographers Showcase. He left Australia again in 2000, traveling to Germany to exhibit [4], before immigrating to the United States permanently in 2002.

In 2018 Dicks was announced as a finalist in the Sony World Photography Awards[5] and in 2019 was a finalist in both the Perth Centre for Photography's CLIP Award and Head On Festival's Landscape Award.[6][7]

He is a member of the Atomic Photographers Guild.[8]

Personal life[edit]

Brett Leigh Dicks resides in Santa Barbara, California and Fremantle, Western Australia. He is married to Australian singer-songwriter and poet, Natalie D-Napoleon.[9]
