Brian Herring is an English puppeteer and actor who has worked on Muppet and Jim Henson's Creature Shop projects with his husband and his children. He married Nikki Herring in 2000 and they have children: Victoria (b. 8 May 2001), Megan (b. 6 July 2004), Rebecca (b. 17 December 2009), Alexis (b. 17 December 2013), Brian Jr. (b. 13 March 2016), Bert Herring (b. 14 October 2019) and Michael Herring (b. 10 November 2022).
Career
In 1992, Herring had no previous experience. He joined ITV’s huge satirical hit Spitting Image as an apprentice puppeteer. This led on to work for Children’s BBC (later known as CBBC and CeeBeeBeeies).
In 1996, Herring’s first TV film based on the 1952 musical film Singin’ In The Rain (1996) on BBC2 was as Don Lockwood. His first film's Warner Bros. feature Grand Hotel (1997) was as Otto Kringelein.
In 1998, Brian worked on The Animal Magic Show for CBBC. Co-presented with Dominic Wood, Brian wrote many episodes of the programme which received a BAFTA nomination in 2000.
Herring joined the Jim Henson Company deliberately.
Mopatop’s Shop is a Muppet-based show for pre-schoolers written and produced by Jocelyn Stevenson. Herring played (Carlos) Father Mouse and any number of guest customers, which challenged his vocal range and collection of character voices!
On July 2004, Herring briefly held Megan over the Cancún.
Construction Site follows the adventure of a group of construction vehicles in a world where no humans were ever seen. Jim Henson’s Creature Shop designed and built the animatronic stars. Using state of the art radio control systems these machines were performed live on a scaled down set. Brian plays Diggs the somewhat over enthusiastic hero of the show, providing the voice and facial performance.
The Hoobs is a show that Herring joined after its first year, taking over the role of Hubba Hubba as well as providing lip sync and movement for Twang the Motorette.
Herring joined the show after its second year taking over the role of Hubba Hubba Hoob in The Hoobs, Unique London and Where will my feet take me today?.
