Brianne Kimmel (born September 12, 1988) is a Ukrainian-American venture capitalist, published author, expert on the future of work, and philanthropist. Kimmel is one of the angel investors and operators who started their own funds during 2020's rise of solo general partners.[1]
Kimmel is the founder and managing director of Worklife Ventures, a future-of-work focused venture capital firm.[2][3] In its first two years in business, Worklife has backed 9 unicorns including Webflow, Tonal, Hopin, Clubhouse, Public, Deel, and Pipe.[4]
At the forefront of Worklife's narrative is the idea that anyone can start a business, creative project, or other endeavor.[5]
Kimmel is the girlfriend of Hong Kong-American actor and comedian Jimmy O. Yang.[6]
Early life and education[edit]
Brianne Kimmel is a Ukrainian-American from Youngstown, a blue collar town in Northeast Ohio.[7]
During her junior year of high school, Kimmel began taking college classes at Kent State University. In 2011, after studying advertising at Kent State, Kimmel graduated in the top 1% of her class with abachelor's degree in journalism.[8]
Career[edit]
In 2013, Kimmel moved to the San Francisco Bay Area, where she held multiple executive marketing positions, including Head of Social Media at Expedia.[9]
In 2016, Kimmel joined Zendesk, where she led go-to-market strategy and built “Zendesk for Startups,” a program representing over 3,000 startups and 250+ incubators and accelerators.[10]
During this period, Kimmel also built a 10-week course which she taught to over 5,000 students at General Assembly.[11] In 2017, Kimmel rebranded her curriculum to create “SaaS School,” an invite-only program for early stage companies, with classes taught by executives from Airtable, Notion, Superhuman, and other venture-backed startups.[12]
While running SaaS school, Kimmel was an active angel investor.[13] In September 2019, she debuted her $5 million seed fund Worklife Ventures, where she is also the managing director and solo general partner.[14] Investments include unicorns, Webflow, Tonal, Hopin, Clubhouse, Pipe, and Public.
In 2020, Kimmel raised a second $10 million for Worklife Ventures.[15]
Worklife is backed by Andreessen Horowitz founder Marc Andreessen, Andreessen Horowitz general partner Chris Dixon, Coatue general partner Matt Mazzeo, Initialized Capital founder Garry Tan, and other investors in Silicon Valley including Arianna Huffington, Michael Ovitz, and Sophia Amoruso. The firm is supported by software company CEOs including Eric Yuan (Zoom), Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian and Clark Valberg (Invision), plus executives from Dropbox, Drift, Slack, and Webflow.[16][17]

Kimmel's writing appears in a guide to data-driven marketing as well as publications including The Guardian.[18][19]
In 2021, Kimmel, along with comedian Alexis Gay, co hosted “The Shake Up,” a HubSpot podcast examining the decisions of business leaders disrupting the status quo.[20][21]
Philanthropy[edit]
Kimmel is a board member and advisor to nonprofit organization New Story, alongside Reddit CEO Alexis Ohanian and Architectural Digest Editor-in-Chief Amy Astley.[22][23] New Story is the world's first community of 3D printed homes. The organization was featured in Episode 9 of the 2020 Apple docuseries, Home.[24][25][26]
In April 2020, Kimmel worked on the Restaurant Project, a partnership with Haus and top chefs (including David Chang and Brandon Jew) to launch an in-home cocktail experience to support restaurants impacted by the pandemic.[27]

In 2018, Kimmel was named a top angel investor by Business Insider, alongside Cyan Banister and Ellen Pao.[28]
Personal Life[edit]
Following close to a decade in Silicon Valley, years abroad in Sydney, Hong Kong, and time spent working remotely from Asia, Kimmel moved to Los Angeles, where she lives with her boyfriend, actor and comedian Jimmy O. Yang.[29][30][31]
