Briggs Original is an alcoholic seltzer company based in Boston, Massachusetts. It was founded by high school friends Michael Kurson and Neil Quigley in 2016.[1] Quigley, labeled a beer prodigy by the Boston Globe, created the product, while Kurson managed the business.[2][3]

History[edit]

Co-Founders Michael Kurson and Neil Quigley met while attending Newton North High School.[4] The idea for a cranberry flavored beverage first came to them on Thanksgiving in 2015.[5] In 2016 the pair decided to found Briggs Original, and launched their first product, Boston Cranberry in July 2017. Quigley and Kurson were only 21 when they founded the company.[6] Quigley is one of the youngest Beer sommeliers.[7] A third Newton North graduate, Greta Schindler, joined the team in 2017.[8]

The company's name comes from an iPhone auto-correct error, supposedly changing the word "bro" to "Briggs". This error became a joke between founders Kurson and Quigley, and the name was later adopted for the company.[9]

Products[edit]

The company's only product is Boston Cranberry, currently produced in Somerville, Massachusetts.[10] It is a 5% ABV, cranberry-lime flavored hard seltzer.[11] It is made with cranberries sourced in Massachusetts. The company plans to launch new products, but hasn't revealed the flavors yet.[12]

Briggs Fest[edit]

Briggs Fest was a Hip hop music festival that took place on July 29th, 2017 to celebrate the company's launch. It was held at The Lawn on D in South Boston. Briggs Fest was the first hip hop music festival to be held at the Lawn on D.[13] The festival was praised for focusing on hip hop as the sole genre and highlighting local up-and-coming artists.[14] [15]

The festival was headlined by Sammy Adams, Waka Flocka Flame, and B.o.B.[16]
