Nepal established diplomatic relations with the United Kingdom in 1816. Treaty of Friendship between Great Britain and Gurkha Kingdom of Nepal was signed in 1923 which further formalised relations between the two countries.
Subcontinental history[edit]
Nepal and the British India signed a treaty in 1923, the first to define the international status of Nepal as an independent and a sovereign nation. It superseded the Sugauli Treaty signed in 1816.
The Brigade of Gurkhas of the British Indian Army and later in the British Army proper has recruited soldiers from Nepal since the 19th century.[1][2]
