The Bruce Case refers to the death of a pit bull dog by a former police officer. on a day before The dog left the house on Oct 30, 2019,[1] but on a day after Oct 31, 2019 he was killed by a former police officer.[2] This case drew national and international attention,[3] such as the Manchinha Case

Bruce, (December 14, 2014[4] - October 31, 2019) was a pit bull.[5] His death was perceived as animal abuse and cruelty to animals.[6]

Bruce left the house as soon as the family arrived with the car.[7]
The crime[edit]
The man was attacked by the pit bull that circled the street while walking his dog along Avenida Eliezer Magalhes.[8] Upon realizing that his phone was gone,[9] he managed to escape the attacks and ran to his apartment.[10] According to the police, the man had been attacked again by the animal when he returned to the scene carrying a machete and a steel bar.[11] The frustrated ex-policeman hit the dog with iron bars and a machete.[12] The animal died because it couldn't resist the injuries.[13]

Repercussion[edit]
After his death, Bruce received several tributes,[15] and in the case, a fan art gained national and international repercussions[16] and quickly,[17] causing a wave of protests in the killer's house.[18][19][20] In February 2019, the case served as the basis for the proposal of more measures against cruelty against animals (PL 1,095/2019), which increased the penalty and fine for those responsible for the crime of mistreatment of animals from two to five years in prison and a maximum fine of 1,000 minimum wages,[21] President Jair Bolsonaro approved the bill in September 2020, turning it into law.[22]
Consequences[edit]
The Defendant was arrested again for the case[23] and sentenced to a fine of $1 million.[24]
