Bruce Falkinburg (January 26, 1969 – July 12, 2022) was an American musician, audio engineer, producer, and photographer. He was the bassist and co-vocalist for The Hidden Hand, a doom metal band whose albums were released on independent labels including Southern Lord Records and MeteorCity. He later joined The Obsessed during their 2016–17 reunion tour.[1][2]
As a producer and engineer, Falkinburg co-owned Phase Recording Studio in College Park, Maryland, where he worked with influential underground bands such as Clutch, Spirit Caravan, and Sixty Watt Shaman. His work has been cited in outlets like Blabbermouth[3] and BrooklynVegan[4], reinforcing his role in shaping the Maryland doom and stoner metal sound.
Notability
Falkinburg meets WP:NMUSIC through his participation in multiple full-length albums released by recognized independent labels, including those distributed internationally. His work as an engineer and producer helped define the sound of bands widely covered in genre-specific press. His involvement with the 2016–17 lineup of The Obsessed, combined with production work for bands with cult and critical recognition, further supports his notability under WP:GNG.

Photography and Teaching
In addition to his music career, Falkinburg was a dedicated analog photographer and educator. He taught traditional darkroom photography at Photoworks at Glen Echo Park in Maryland and was known for his commitment to film-based techniques. From November 18, 2022, to January 8, 2023, Photoworks held a retrospective exhibition of his work, honoring both his artistry and his role as a beloved teacher in the community.[5]
In an artist statement shared by Photoworks, Falkinburg described his journey:
I have been working at being a fine art photographer since my teenage years (with a big hiatus in my 30s), concentrating on traditional analog darkroom film photography. I studied a bit in the formal setting of The New School in NYC until my mentor at the time suggested I had the basis for an artistic voice, but needed more knowledge and experience to really learn to speak with this voice through my photographs. This led to more school, grad school in the humanities and geography, and various "careers" that led to teaching and back to photography.
