John Matthew Spignesi (born June 4, 1991 in New Haven, Connecticut) is an American musician, specializing on the electric guitar. He achieved attention with former Psychedelic rock band Off The Dome for which he was a founding member. Spignesi currently performs with his main project, The John Spignesi Band.
Early life[edit]
Spignesi was born in New Haven, Connecticut, the son of Paul & Laura Spignesi.
Influenced by music at an early age, Spignesi began "borrowing" his sister's guitar she was using for a senior project. His constant use of the guitar eventually caused her to give it to him as a gift upon completion of the assignment. Spignesi's father was a huge appreciator of classic rock bands such as Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. These bands, coupled with Spignesi's interest in heavy groups such as Metallica, Black Sabbath, and Iron Maiden only further solidified his desire to learn to play guitar.
Off The Dome[edit]
New Haven jam band Off The Dome was formed by Spignesi, Robert Engengro, & Zack Borgstedt while attending college in 2012. The band performed Psychedelic Rock original music with covers mixed in. Throughout the course of their career, Off The Dome played upwards of 200 shows including numerous music festivals. Spignesi served as lead guitarist, as well as one of the backing vocalists and songwriters of Off The Dome for its entire career. The band toured steadily until their disbandment in October 2017.
John Spignesi Band[edit]
John Spignesi Band (JSB) was formed in 2015 by Spignesi and bassist Bob LaCroix. The initial purpose of the band was for Spignesi to keep his playing "chops" during breaks in between Off The Dome's schedule. When OTD disbanded in October 2017, Drummer Matt Alling convinced Spignesi to prioritize JSB as his main project. He agreed and decided to invest all of his time into the band. Since becoming a priority, JSB has experimented with a variety of musical styles, toured regularly, and released several albums.
