Bruce Q. Lan (aka. Qing Lan) (Chinese: 蓝青; pinyin: Lán Qīng; born November 7 1972) is an artist, designer, curator, editor and independent publisher. He has been based in Beijing since 2003, after 4 years’ study and practice in art and architectural research in the United States.

Life and career[edit]

Bruce received his MFA degree in fine art from School of Art and Art History at the University of Florida in 2001, where the graduate school honored him Grinter Fellowship[1] and Teaching Assistantship for three years. While at UFL, he received Outstanding Student Academic Achievement Award in 2000, and Samuel P. Harn Museum of Art Award in 1999. His paintings, prints and installation works have participated in numerous exhibitions at galleries and museums, attended some of key national art shows in China, and been published in magazines and books. In the field of architecture design, Bruce has actively involved in a series of building design and city planning projects in China, such as Huanglongxi International Eco-Tourism Resort Master Planning in Chendu, Master Planning and Building Project of Tea Agricultural Economic Zone in Fujian, and Master Planning and Building Project of the New Rural Industry Demonstration Park in Beijing etc.

In 2002, Bruce co-founded AADCU program with Robin Luo (aka. Xiaoqu Luo) at the Stanford University, serving as the program's director until present. AADCU program (United Asia Art and Design Cooperation) is a non-profit organization and a multilateral platform with components in academic activities, exhibitions and publication in China and all around the world. The program is developing into a collaboration network to promote emerging and evolutionary engagements in the world's architectural practices.

As program leader at AADCU, Bruce organized and curated a series of projects involving globally leading architects who are dedicated to emerging and innovative architecture. Examples include Symptoms Dissolves by Digital Flux and Information Age, Urbanism on Site / Transition Between Past and Future, etc. Bruce has edited and published numerous books[2] for the work of a group of globally recognized architects, including Eric Owen Moss,[3] UN Studio, Asymptote,[4] Hernan Diaz Alonso, Greg Lynn,[5] R&Sie(n),[6] Nader Tehrani, Ammar Eloueini, Jackob + Macfarlane, and Neil Denari etc.
