Bryn Curt James Hammond (born January 1, 1982) is an English author, journalist, television personality and actor.[1][2] He is the founder and editor of the monthly horror magazine GoreZone.

Career[edit]

In 2004 Hammond wrote, produced and edited "The Summer of the Massacre" [3] which was entirely self-funded. The film did not originally have a release strategy, but when it was completed Hammond submitted it to all the UK independent labels. Dead of Night Collection picked it up and released it on October 31, 2004, three months after the film had finished shooting. Because the first month of sales was strong Hammond was then able to submit his film to various US distributors as sales figures showed that if the distributors took it on and put it through the MPAA, later promoting the DVD via in-print advertising in various territories, they would easily be able to make back their investment. Brain Damage Films picked up the movie and released it on September 30, 2006 and later as a cult film edition on July 1, 2008 in the USA.[4][5] The Summer of the Massacre led to a book by author Garry Charles called Hammerhead: A Summer of Massacre (2007).

Hammond is known predominantly for his role as founder, company director and editor of the monthly magazine GoreZone,[6] which was launched in 2005 and later re-branded to GZ Magazine to broaden the publication's appeal to a wider audience.[7][8] Hammond personally selected the cover stars for the magazine and was very hands-on in all processes including the exclusive photoshoots. His chosen cover stars included former The Girls Next Door star Bridget Marquardt, Halloween’s Danielle Harris, Michelle Pfeiffer’s sister Dedee Pfeiffer and Suzie Kennedy

As sales grew, Hammond launched the magazine's International Film Festival Weekend of Horror in 2008, hosted by Emily Booth, Christa Campbell and Suzi Lorraine. Weekend of Horror was initially held in London at the Odeon cinema on Tottenham Court Road but later relocated to Prince Charles cinema in Leicester Square, where it ran for three successful years featuring 14 premieres over two days at Halloween.[9][10][11]

In 2009 Hammond orchestrated and launched a monthly DVD cover mount for GZ Magazine, presented by Emily Booth, which ran until 2011. He also produced GZ Celebrity Ghost Hunt,[12] which ran for five episodes and featured various reality TV stars and Horror icons.

Between 2009 and 2010 Hammond was invited to speak at several universities on the subject of today’s form of journalism and digital publishing. In 2011, however, GZ magazine closed its doors[13] due to personal reasons and conflicts with the magazine's co-owner.

Other work[edit]

As a result of his work within the horror industry Hammond was given special thanks for his support and help on various movies. These include 2001 Maniacs: Field of Screams,[14] Won Ton Baby!,[15] Animal Soup[16] and Gutterballs.[17]

Hammond has appeared as himself on various ‘Best of TV’ shows and also appeared in Best Worst Movie,[18] released in 2009 by Area 23a, which takes an in-depth look at the cult horror movie Troll 2.[19]

In 2015 he and his business partner launched Miami Fox Publishing,[20] with the goal of taking new authors' work to market and offering guidance, proofreading, editing and design.[21]
