Andrew Luis Lapid (born August 4, 2004), professionally known as Buknoy Glamurrr, is a Filipino social media personality, influencer, and internet sensation.[3][4] He is under Star Image Artist Management.[5]

Biography[edit]

Lapid was born on August 4, 2004 in Pampanga but currently resides in Quezon City where he works and studies. Lapid is best known for his "Tita Jenny" series in YouTube where Jenny, his dad's mistress is called the "dakilang kabit ng bayan" (great mistress in town).[6] Having joined YouTube on December 21, 2014, his channel has garnered a total of roughly 17 million views and over 250,000 subscribers.[7]

On December 19, 2020, Star Image Artist Management released a poster and announced that Lapid and his boyfriend Feng dela Cruz will be having a BL series entitled "The Alter".[8]

Controversies[edit]

In July 2020, one of Buknoy's YouTube videos went viral for allegedly belittling tricycle drivers. He was supposed to encourage and motivate the tricycle drivers but ended up insulting his viewers in response to their criticisms due to his offensive behavior in which he also became trending on Twitter. Later on, he clarified that he did not degrade the tricycle drivers but was just supporting their profession.[9][10] Local celebrities such as Aiko Melendez, Kaladkaren, and Maymay Entrata shared their thoughts and opinions, and advised the aspiring vlogger Buknoy to be humble and learn to respect other people for what they do and who they are.[11][12][13]

On July 3, 2020, Buknoy posted an apology video to all tricycle drivers and to his viewers.[14][15]

On July 6, 2020, Buknoy and Mark Jayson "Makagago" Warnakulahewa faced each other after the latter posted a diss video about Buknoy's attitude and his issues.[16] Makagago's agency Star Image Artist Management called him to face Buknoy as he was about to file a case against Makagago.[17][18]

On August 24, 2020, Buknoy and Awra Briguela trended after they quarrelled on Twitter because of a video of Buknoy showing him in the streets not wearing a mask, and violating curfew and quarantine protocols in a public place. Buknoy has apologized and added that Awra is much more well known than him so many people will believe and trust him. Buknoy also hoped that he and Awra will get along and said that he was tired of receiving negative feedback online.[19][20]

On December 14, 2020, Awra Briguela reacted to a netizen's comment on Buknoy's TikTok video with Feng dela Cruz, Awra's ex-boyfriend who cheated on him. The netizen's comment read, "You even fought Awra, that's all you want" then Buknoy replied, "I haven't fought Awra, remember, he's the one who ruined my personality". Awra answered Buknoy on a Twitter post, "Excuse me? Buknoy Glamurrr? I didn't... I was just trying to educate you, it was your actions so, you're the one who ruined your personality." Awra added, "And about Feng? I don't really care about you two because I have been fooled by the both of you and people know that."[21][22]

After the release of the trailer of The Alter, netizens found the series to be inappropriate for Buknoy's age as it contained obscene, sexual scenes. However, Star Image Artist Management said they have sought consent from Buknoy's family for the upcoming project and the latter was permitted to continue taping.[23]
