Bunta Inoue (井上文太, Inoue Bunta), is a Japanese painter and visual artist. Studying under the painter Kuniyoshi Kaneko, Inoue has been engaged in everything from Japanese painting and oil painting to character design after becoming an independent artist.[2]

Artistic training[edit]
Inoue began studying under painter Kuniyoshi Kaneko. In 1998, he began his career as a painter.[3]
Independent career[edit]
In 2010, Inoue was awarded the 36th Hoso Bunka Foundation HBF Prize for art in recognition of his character design for the Japanese puppet television show The Three Musketeers (Renzoku Ningyo Katsugeki Shin Sanjushi 連続人形活劇 新・三銃士).[4] [5]
In April 2011, Inoue participated in the “Bid to Save the Earth” Green Auction held by the auction house Christie’s.[6][7]
In 2014, he took charge of puppet design and puppet art supervision for NHK Puppet Entertainment's Sherlock Holmes (Shārokku hōmuzu シャーロック ホームズ).[8]
On July 3, 2019, Inoue contributed "ShōRyuu Jin-zu" (昇龍神図) to the Yamanashi Prefectural Government.[9]
An exhibition of his works, "Tateyama Art Ambassador: Painting Fanatic Bunta Inoue Exhibition," was held at Tateyama Castle in Chiba, Japan (March 31, 2021 – March 31, 2022).[10]
On August 26, 2022, Inoue sold his first book of paintings, Flash – Inspirations – Painting Fanatic Bunta Inoue, produced by HYDE (the vocalist of L'Arc-en-Ciel).[11]
On July 2, 2022, an exhibition of his works, "Special Section: Inoue Bunta Inspirations" was held at Yokosuka Museum of Art in Kanagawa, Japan (July 2 – September 25, 2022).[12]
In September 2022, Inoue collaborated with Hyde (vocalist of L'Arc-en-Ciel) to create a stage for his solo live performance on September 10.[13]
Character design[edit]
Bunta Inoue worked as a character designer for The Three Musketeers (Renzoku Ningyo Katsugeki Shin Sanjushi 連続人形活劇 新・三銃士), which was a serial puppet show written by Kōki Mitani and broadcast by NHK Educational TV from October 2009.
He also worked as a character designer for the puppet play series " Sherlock Holmes " written by Kōki Mitani, which aired on NHK Educational TV in 2014.

Restoration support activities[edit]
At the request of JR Bus Kanto, Inoue Bunta designed the bus body and bus stop signage for the Boso Rapeseed Flower Bus to support the reconstruction of Tateyama City, Chiba Prefecture, which was damaged by floods caused by Typhoon No. 21 in 2019.[25]
