Bureaucracy of merit

Bureaucracy of Merit is a bureaucracy that the Tang dynasty relied heavily on. Recruited governmental officials from the ranks of candidates who progressed through Confucian education system and mastered a sophisticated curriculum concentrating on Chinese literature and philosophy. Most office holders won posts because of intellectual activity.
