Buy It Direct
Buy It Direct, formerly Easy Computers Ltd (2001-2009), is an online retailer based in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, UK.[1] The company supplies IT products, associated services and home appliances, such as consumer electronics, major appliances, and more, through several websites that the company owns and manages, including Appliance Direct, Furniture 123 and Better Bathrooms.[2]
History
The company was established by Nicholas Glynne in 1999, when he took over a computer repair shop in Fartown, Huddersfield.[3][4] Glynne and Directors Simon Barnett and Barry Jackson manage the company.[1]
Buy It Direct has acquired some smaller retail companies which fit with its business model. In March 2019, it acquired Better Bathrooms, and in July 2021 it acquired Outdoor Living, a retailer of hot tubs, swim spas, saunas and gazebos.[3]
In 2020, BGF Investments acquired a minor stake in the company, subscribing for £2 million of loan notes to support the company's long-term growth strategy. In the same financial year ending in March 2020, filed accounts showed that turnover grew to £295.5 million, up from £248.8 million in the 2018-2019 financial year.[5]
In 2021, the retailer confirmed further growth after leasing a new warehouse at the East Midlands Distribution Centre in Leicestershire. At present, the company employs over eight hundred people. Managing Director Nicholas Glynne cited increased demand for online goods, partly due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as the reason behind the new acquisition.[6]
