CAREL INDUSTRIES (company)[edit]
CAREL Industries S.p.A. is an Italian multinational that designs, manufactures and markets electronic control solutions for the HVAC/R sector and humidification and evaporative cooling systems. Founded in 1973 in Padua province (Italy), it has 25 subsidiaries, 9 production sites and more than 1,700 employees worldwide. In 2018 it was listed on the Milan Stock Exchange in the FTSE Italia STAR and FTSE Italia Small Cap [1]indices.

CAREL was founded in 1973 in Padua province as a business to business company, with the name C.AR.EL. being an acronym in Italian that described its main business: Costruzioni ARmadi ELettrici (electric panel construction). The drive to adopt Kaizen (continuous improvement) and innovation led CAREL to grow rapidly and expand the scope of its business. CAREL today is a global company that provides technologically-advanced components and solutions (hardware and software) for the control of air conditioning (HVAC) and refrigeration systems (collectively HVAC/R).
Applications[edit]
In the HVAC market, CAREL offers control solutions and humidifiers for both stand-alone units, such as heat pumps, shelters, rooftop units, Computer Room Air Conditioners (CRAC), chillers and air handling units, and for complex systems, such as complete installations for shopping centres, supermarkets, museums and data centres. In the refrigeration market, CAREL deals with the design, production and marketing of control systems for the food retail, food service (horeca) and medical application segments. Similarly to HVAC, in the refrigeration market CAREL designs, manufactures and offers solutions both to be integrated into stand-alone units, such as bottle coolers, plug-in refrigerators, multiplexed refrigerators, compressor racks and condensing units, and complex systems, such as entire installations for supermarkets of all sizes, convenience stores and quick service restaurants.
International growth[edit]
The company’s international expansion first began in the 1990s, opening subsidiaries in France, the United Kingdom, South America and Germany. In the 2000s it opened further subsidiaries in

At the end of 2018, CAREL also began growth through acquisitions with the incorporation of Recuperator and Hygromatik into the Group.
Research and development[2][edit]
Every year the company invests around 6% of consolidated revenues in Research & Development. CAREL operates its own research centres for HVAC/R applications in Italy, China and the United States. These centres are devoted to studying the latest technological innovations on the market; they are where the company’s refrigeration and air conditioning systems are conceived, designed and built. Company headquarters is also home to a research centre focusing on air humidification and evaporative cooling systems.

Environmental sustainability has always been one of CAREL’s values: all of the solutions marketed are designed to bring energy savings and reduce the environmental impact of the units and systems they are installed on.
Natural refrigerants[edit]
Natural refrigerants are considered sustainable solutions due to their low GWP. CAREL supports the spread of natural refrigerants and invests in offering solutions for improving energy efficiency that are both compatible with the unique characteristics of natural refrigerants and comply with the international standards that govern their use.
Services[edit]
CAREL offers a combined portfolio of products and services aimed at guaranteeing quality and efficiency throughout the entire unit or system life cycle. The CAREL proposal includes maintenance services for humidification systems, and digital services for optimising the management and performance of units and systems, either remotely via the cloud or on-premises solutions. These are the focus of the IoT department, which manages mobile apps and cloud portals designed for the different applications.

CAREL is a member of several national and international business associations, participating in advocacy activities aimed at supporting and promoting its different business sectors. These include, among others, ASHRAE, EPEE, Eurovent, AHRI, EHPA and AiCARR.

CAREL has received numerous awards and recognitions, both as a company and for its individual products. At a corporate level, these include the Mediobanca award, the Small & Mid Cap Award received in 2019 for the STAR stock exchange segment, while as regards individual products, China Refrigeration Innovation Awards have been given in recent years to the E2vZ electronic expansion valve, the Hecu solution for condensing units, and the EmJ modulating ejector.
