J.CHRISTOPHER CONSANI[edit]

J.CHRISTOPHER CONSANI[1] aka MAX was born in 1944 and raised in Cape Town, South Africa.

Education[edit]

EDUCATION (1) Foundation

He attended school in Cape Town at Laerskool Groote Schuur, ,Bishops[2] and St Aidan's College[3] in Grahamstown where he became Senior Student and lst XV fly-half[4]. In 1961 he passed the Joint Matriculation Board with distinctions in History and was awarded the Queen Victoria Prize for the best English essay written in that year's matriculation exam.

In 1966 at the Univerșity of Cape Town[5] he was awarded the Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in Economics and Roman Law[6], with distinctions in Constitutional History. Although he was always a maverick in the intense political climate of the university, he was three times elected to the Student's Representative Council, eventually serving as Vice-President. He won both the UCT Best Speaker's Debate and the NUSAS national speaker's debate.

EDUCATION (2) Diversification

After gradyating at UCT he changed direction: instead of continuing with law studies, he went to the University of Stellenbosch[7] and studied English for two years and studied Philosophy for two years with Dr. Johan Degenaar.

The following year he completed English III at the University of Natal[8].

In 1971 he returned to obtain his Senior Teaching Diploma, followed by a year teaching English at Milnerton High School[9] under Acting Principal Allan Powell[10].

EDUCATION (3) Fulfillment

One of his many activities at Milnerton High was to produce (and act in) a school play. This brief experience of the stage led to his attending in 1973 the One-Year Course for Actors at UCT Dramal School[11] under Robert Mohr[12]. A highlight of the year was his portrayal of King Henry VIII with each of his six wives.

In the following year he was contracted as actor to PACOFS (Performing Arts Council of Free State) in Bloemfontein. Here he played Zepo in Arrabal's “Picnic on the Battlefield," and the supporting role in Genet's "Deathwatch".

EDUCATION (4) Completed

After a year with PACOFS, and while freelancing in Johannesburg, he studied with the University of South Africa and was awarded the postgraduate degree (HONOURS) BA in English.

Work[edit]

FREELANCE ACTOR

In 1975 he produced and acted the lead in "The Collector[13]" which played Johannesburg and toured four other SA cities.
