CRPF Academy[1][2] is a training center of CRPF at Gurgaon. The training center imparts basic military training to the officers[3] selected through UPSC. After completion of training from academy, officers are posted to various battalions of CRPF located all over India.[4]
An Additional Director General (ADG) rank officer heads the CRPF Academy.[5].
The 52nd batch consisting of 117 directly appointed officers of CRPF passed out of the academy on 23rd December 2021. Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai was chief guest of the function[6][7].
History[edit]
The induction of direct officers in CRPF started in 1961 and their basic training was imparted at Mount Abu in Rajasthan and later at Neemuch[8] in Madhya Pradesh. The academy at the location of Gurgaon was established in 2005.
The foundation stone of CRPF academy was laid by the then Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of India L.K. Advani, at Kadarpur in district Gurgaon, Haryana.
Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated शौर्य वन (Shaurya Van), Forest of Valour on 12 July 2020[9] ahead of the All India Tree Plantation Campaign[10].
The academy was awarded Best institute of the year 2019-20 by MHA[11][12][13].
A parade on the occasion of 82nd raising day of CRPF was organised at the CRPF Academy. Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai took the salute at the parade[14].
Campus[edit]
The campus is situated in foothills of Aravalli range and is spread over 308 acres. It is at a distance of 26 Kms from IGI Airport, New Delhi. A 30x20 feet tri-colour flying at full mast at a height of 112 feet in front of the training and administrative block is the tallest tri-colour in a security force’s camp in the country[15]. The academy houses a full bore shooting range[16], a 9 hole golf course[17], and a parade ground to host parades.
Climate[edit]
The climate of CRPF Academy is akin to that of Delhi.The summers are very hot and winters are dry and cold. The temperature ranges from 45 degree Celsius in summers to 2 degrees Celsius in winters. The average yearly rainfall is 553mm.
Administration[edit]
Academy is headed by a Director, a three-star rank officer of CRPF. Additional Director General Pradeep Kumar Singh is the present director[18].
Procedure for the selection of Cadets[edit]
Applicants to the academy are selected via a written exam conducted followed by extensive interviews by the UPSC every year. The applicant has to qualify certain physical and medical standards.
Courses[edit]
1728 directly appointed officers have been trained at the academy thus far. Apart from basic military training of directly appointed officers many other courses are conducted at the academy[19]
- Medical Officers Combatisation Course.
- Training of Trainers.
- ATA - Critical Incident Management.
- ATA - Preventing Terrorist Attacks
- Handling of Fire Arms & Unarmed Combat
- First Aid Course
Alumni[edit]
Alumni of the academy have led and fought in every major conflict in India. They have an illustrious record of numerous gallantry awards.
