Cactus cowboy is a series of Virtual Reality First Person Shooter games. The games describe how a clan of cacti have to fight bugs and complete other challenges. The player progresses through the story by completing levels with a set objective, usually involving shooting an army of bugs with a arsenal of guns. The series is a passion project of a German solo-developer, Cactus VR Studios.[1]
Each game takes place in a different setting that introduces different challenges. The games are released on various VR consoles and platforms and are free to download.
Development[edit]
The first Cactus Cowboy game was developed by Cactus VR studios in 2019/2020 in as a “learning by doing” project.[1] By 2023 the developer has released 5 games in the series. With each entry, the games become more sophisticated and show more refined features.
When comparing Plants at War to Fully Loaded, the game includes many more features like two-handed weapons, recoil, voice acting, NPC character support, a more immersive story. Plants at War also utilizes the haptic feedback feature from the PS VR2 Sense controllers.
Cactus Cowboy -- "Plants at War" was the first Free-To-Play PSVR2 game.[2]
Cactus Cowboy AR -- "Emilios Adventure" was the first game to feature the Experimental Pass-through on SideQuest.[3]
The sixth entry of the series, Cactus Cowboy -- "Desert Warfare", is in development and expected to be finished Q3-Q4 2023.[4]
It is expected to feature new mechanics like custom weapon skins, easy grab to pick up weapons and more enemy types.[5]
