Cai Haoyu (Chinese: 蔡浩宇; pinyin: Cài Hàoyǔ; born July 29, 1987) is a Chinese entrepreneur and game producer. He is the co-founder, chairman and president of the Chinese game company miHoYo.
Early life[edit]
Cai was born in Jinan, Shandong in 1987. His father, Cai Xianghang, was born in Jiyang County and was an employee of Jinan Railway Bureau. Cai attended primary and junior high schools in Jinan Daminghu Primary School and Jinan Foreign Language School. During his high school studies in Shandong Experimental High School, Cai Haoyu graduated with excellent grades and obtained the recommendation qualification of Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
Career[edit]
In 2011, he and his classmates Liu Wei and Luo Yuhao from the School of Electronic Information of Shanghai Jiao Tong University established the initial team of miHoYo.[1][2][3] It began as a literary open source community.[4]
Cai started making his first game FlyMe2theMoon in 2010. Two years later, it received its first and only angel investment worth 1 million RMB. After that, he started to work on Honkai Gakuen (Guns Girl Z) as the production director.[5][6]
On February 20, 2021, the Silicon Valley Alumni Association of Shanghai Jiao Tong University held the fifth session of the series of dialogues "Riding the Wind and Waves – The Story of Jiaotong University's Workplace/Entrepreneurship". Cai Haoyu, the co-founder, chairman and president of miHoYo attended as a guest.[7]
On March 4, 2021, miHoYo signed a memorandum of cooperation with Shanghai Ruijin Hospital to jointly build the "miHoYo Joint Laboratory of Encephalopathy Center of Ruijin Hospital". The two parties will combine their respective advantages in medical clinical research and information technology to jointly develop brain-computer interface technology Research. Cai Haoyu, Liu Wei, Yin Chunbo, the director, and Xing Jun, the President of AI and Community Department attended the event.[8][9]
On December 1, 2021, miHoYo jointly invested 1 million RMB to establish "Zero Unique Thinking Co., Ltd." through its subsidiary Argo Co., Ltd., which is responsible for investment in new business formats and new kinetic energy industries, and Lü Baoliang, a computer science professor at Shanghai Jiaotong University. According to public information, the company mainly operates medical research and experimental development, software development, animation game development and other businesses. Among them, Lü Baoliang holds 51% of the shares, Argo holds 49% of the shares, and Wu Di, the vice president of the strategic investment department of miHoYo, serves as the legal representative of the company. Some media pointed out that the company's main projects are likely to be related to the direction of brain-computer interface technology, according to the memorandum of cooperation between Cai Haoyu, his mentor Lü Baoliang, and Shanghai Ruijin Hospital.[10]
